D and I both went for a run around the Cap d’Antibes. Adventure running is something that D turned me onto. When he traveled a bunch for business, he would bring his running shoes and go out for a run to check out the area. His trips to DC were filled with adventure runs. Now when we travel together, we will sometimes go for these runs together.
Since D had worked out in the fitness centre yesterday, we started the run together and then ran separately. If you don’t know this already, D is quite a bit faster than me. His loop was much shorter than mine as he chose the fork that said “Antibes” and I chose the fork that said “Antibes – Bord du Mer.” Ummm, yah Antibes would have been the right choice in 37C heat. My run turned into more of a run/walk as it was frigging hot!
I returned to the hotel a full hour after D. Thankfully, he had lovingly prepared breakfast for me as the restaurant had stopped serving. The juice was much, much needed.
He requested and got a late checkout, so we quickly went up to our room and changed into swimsuits for a much needed dip in the pool.
D also secured transportation to our next hotel. We had planned on taking the train, but after our experience waiting for a taxi at the train station in Antibes that seemed less appealing. A direct car from hotel to hotel seemed like an excellent idea.
We arrived to the JW Marriott Cannes in a stylish black Peugeot with a young female chauffeur. The check in went smoothly and when we mentioned it was our anniversary, the agent said, “oh yes, Margaux, the guest services agent, is waiting to welcome you and we have upgraded you to a lovely garden view room.”
Margaux gave us a very warm welcome and even escorted us to our room! Our room is awesome and has a funny number.
We made a quick change to beach attire, D discovered a $10 bill in his swimsuit, which we took as a lucky sign what with our 10th anniversary and all.
The concierge recommended Baoli Beach, however they were all full. We headed back to the concierge and he sent us to L’Annex. Alas, we determined that the concierge was not excellent when L’Annex did not have our reservation. Thankfully they were able to seat us and we enjoyed an excellent lunch of lobster salad and mussels in white wine with frites of course.
We walked along the entire length of the beach checking out all of the privé plages to see where we might end up tomorrow. The privé plages are much less crowded than the public ones. The water was super refreshing on our feet with the high temperatures.
We returned to our room to discover that Margaux has arranged for a beautiful anniversary dessert to be delivered to our room! Boy, we feel pampered!
We opted for Italian for dinner and headed to Arcimboldo which has been recommended by our concierge via email before our stay. Philippe, the evening concierge, was much better. He called and arranged a reservation for us as well as confirmed our “beds” at the beach for tomorrow.
We called it an early night and I enjoyed some of the cheesecake for dessert.
So far Cannes is epically awesome!
