Blogtember Day 17 (only 3 more days!): today’s prompt write about a time you screwed up – a mistake you made.
First off, I cannot believe there are only 3 more days. When I opted to start writing as part of the Blogtember group, I was not sure that I would be able to stick with it for so long. Sometimes it has been harder to come up with posts, while others have been fun. I am already looking forward to writing with the Travel Tuesdays link up. (Clearly, I love to travel…)
Picture this: 22 years old getting ready to leave the house for work. Running late. Back out of driveway and cut the corner too close. Hit our neighbors bumper. Ouch. Hop out of car and leave a quick note on her car to call me with my insurance info.
She calls me and I put her in contact with my insurance company (USAA). Not only does USAA take care of her and her car, they give her a loaner car. When I touch base with her later, she says that USAA is single-handedly the best insurance company that she has worked with.
My mistake of not judging the corner turned into a lesson in kindness. I did the “right thing” by leaving her a note and at the end of the day I got a smile. Sure, I was stressed in the moment, but it seems like it always pays off to do the right thing.
There is a favorite story that I have heard: Young kid goes into a cobbler wanting an apprenticeship. Cobbler asks kid, “have you ever made a mistake?” Kid responds, “No, sir, never.” Cobbler says, “Sorry, then I do not want you as an apprentice as you will not know how to fix your mistakes.”
Accidents happen, it is how we handle them that matters.
