If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?
There was not even a moment before the response to today’s Blogtember prompt popped into my head.
I love France. For about the last 5 years or so, a good girlfriend and I have been playing the what if game. As in what if we just took off for 3 months and lived in the South of France. There is something alluring about the lifestyle in the South of France, a certain joie de vivre, meandering thru the marché for just the right produce or fromage or well just about anything.
The time we recently spent in France for our anniversary did nothing more than solidify in my mind that if I had 3 months and could do anything in the world, I would go live in the South of France, probably somewhere near Aix although the coast now has a certain allure.
I think a small apartment would suffice, certainly close enough to town to be able to enjoy the ability to walk everywhere. Access to a scooter or a tandem bike would make the adventure even more fun with D.
The days would be spent waking up, maybe going for a run, then a little yoga before walking to the nearest cafe to enjoy a petit déjeuner. Then I would head to the marché to pick up the perfect fixings to make a yummy lunch, probably a goat cheese salad with the goat cheese melted on a little toast after just the right amount of time under the broiler.
In the afternoon, a walk to the jardin to sit with a good book on my Kindle and watch the children play or a bike ride thru the hills or a scooter ride along the coast.
In the evening, we would stroll down to the town.
Then we would enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the many cafés that offer the perfect perch to people watch. Some moules frittes sound pretty delicious.
I think the ideal time would be in the late Spring or early Summer when the temperatures are a bit warmer.
In the frantic pace that we live our lives, there is something calming about the idea of living some place else for just a little while to have an experience that lasts longer than a brief vacation.
