As 2013 drew to a close yesterday, I was filled with reflections about the year that brought significant changes for our family. All in all it was a big year for us, not an easy year, but not a bad year either. My run yesterday morning included a beautiful view of the skyline with a stunningly colorful sunrise encouraging me to reflect on the last year.
When we closed out 2012, we thought 2013 would bring certain things to us. Clearly, we had no idea what it would bring. 2013 was a year of doing footwork, you know the digging thru stuff that you have not wanted to face kinda work.
I felt grateful to have faced this work with the support of my family, friends, and let’s face it a great counselor. While the support of family and friends is important, the support of a counselor can really challenge you to become the better version of you that you want to become.
When I started counseling in February, I started for one very important reason. I experienced a very bad reaction to a medication, no like horrible life altering reaction, do not recommend this type of reaction to anyone, ever. I needed to get thru that, but little did I know that March would bring more changes to our family and my counselor was instrumental in helping me navigate those changes too.
Now as we approach today, the first day in 2014, we know that 2014 will be a year full of brand new adventures for our family. We are excited and maybe a little scared, but what good adventure starts without a little bit of fear?
May 2014 bring many blessings to your family and to quote D during his toast this morning: “To 2014, the best year ever!”
