Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you probably know that D and I are in the process of moving to Phoenix. Moving to a new city let alone a new state has been challenging. Living in separate cities and states for most of February was brutal. The last day of February brought me and my car finally to our new home of Phoenix, Arizona.
I enjoyed a leisurely drive thru California on my way to Phoenix (more on that adventure in another post soon). We were very, very blessed that our house sold quickly. Once it was in escrow, I felt that it was time for me to make my way to Phoenix to start settling us into this new place for real. We are living in a corporate condo that lacked our creature comforts. As I started packing, I began to think that D and I could use a staycation to get us back to why we want to live in Phoenix.
We have been unpacking or house hunting pretty much any time that I have visited him. While looking for our next home should be exciting, it can be a little overwhelming in an area that is pretty much unknown to us aside from vacations.
I had found several Marriott hotel packages that looked appealing, however D was adamant about not wanting to drive. The only package that I could find at the JW Camelback Inn was a golf and spa deal. Generally, this would be perfect, but with rain in the forecast on Saturday, golf was less appealing to D.
As I drove on the 10 towards Phoenix, I called the property and spoke with Jamie in Concierge. She was able to help me navigate using the golf credit towards something else. Score! So with that I surprised D with a stay at another hotel on my bucket list.
The JW Marriott Camelback Inn lived up to all of my dreams.
We were upgraded to a beautiful room with the largest deck that D had ever seen.
We enjoyed cocktails on the deck before dinner.
Dinner was a spectacular steakhouse experience at BLT Steak.
The popovers were so delish! And, bonus, they gave a little card with the recipe, so I will be trying this at home soon.
And the steak was super too!
The next morning we enjoyed coffee on the deck. (note: there were TWO DECKS!)
Then D went on a run and I walked around the property.
We enjoyed breakfast, another over the top JW buffet. How can you go wrong with donuts, hot cinnamon rolls and made to order eggs? Yes, that is my plate and yes I ate almost all of it. 🙂
We asked Rachel, the lovely attendant that checked us in if we could please have a late check out and we scored a 2pm checkout.
Then we checked out bikes and biked over to the golf club just before the rain started.
They loaned us a golf cart to check out the courses, which was super as D hopes to play there soon…just not in the rain!
Thankfully, the bellhop had let us know that we could take a shuttle back to the hotel rather than the bikes as it was dumping rain by then.
Then we enjoyed some time on the enormous deck.
And the sun peeked out just in time for us to head to the Jackrabbit pool.
Of course, the rain started again so we headed up to the spa and enjoyed a tasty lunch before spending time by the spa pool before our massages.
The overnight was pretty much the best way to rest and restore. We left feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle unpacking to make the condo a bit more of a home.
Yes, time really does stand still at the Camelback Inn.
