The past 8 months seem to have flown right by. When we rescued Merlin in January, we knew it would be a game changer for our little family of 3. Guinie, our Maine coon mix cat, has always offered us up a healthy dose of personality, but she’s a cat and much more self-sufficient than an 11 week old puppy.
Bringing Merlin into our lives has forced us to reevaluate our priorities as I would imagine welcoming a baby into your life changes things. Sleepless nights for the first month until we realized that our little bundle of fur simply wanted to sleep with us. Incidentally, he is now the best sleeper in the whole house and does not need to go out to the bathroom until the morning. Yes, we feel incredibly blessed for his bladder of steel.
Part of bringing him home with us stemmed from wanting to fill a void for the other ways we would like to expand our family, which has challenged us to say the least. When we met Merlin at his foster mom’s home, we were smitten from the moment we met him. Gone was going to talk about it over lunch, he was coming home with us.
He is happiest when he is with his whole family, including Guinie, so we have adapted our lives to include him whenever possible. He travels with us as much as possible. Given that he is only 10 months old, this week, that still requires a certain amount of patience.
I have continued to strive towards the healthy life I seek and finally feel grounded in ways that I did not before. This blog is a place to share my story and it is not always a priority for me. Since I am finally coming up for air, I thought I would try to incorporate space for writing again.
