Another post from the series of emails that I sent in 2014 as we navigated starting an IVF cycle….
Hi A Team,
Thanks for bearing with me as I navigated what proved to be a bumpy month between fertility and exams. Fertility treatments and all they entail are not for sissies. Just when we thought that everything was working out smoothly, we hit a few hurdles. While we could have proceeded with the treatment last month, the doctor did not recommend it. I had a hormone producing cyst that did not respond to extra medication and the 13 follicles had dwindled to 6 on the left plus an indeterminable number on the right. And since my body responds so well to hormones in general, those extra hormones gave me a run for my money emotionally. While the doctor would have preferred me to stay on birth control for a month, we made the choice for me to go off birth control to try to get a better handle on my mood. The doctor ultimately supported this decision as my mood is important.
I made the choice to see a naturopathic doctor as I was not snapping out of things on my own. This doctor has been a God send. Literally 36 hours after I saw her, I was feeling better. She prescribed a homeopathic remedy and ordered some tests to get to the bottom of things. She is super supportive and I am really happy to have found her. She really seems to be looking at the whole picture of me rather than just the pieces. The last of the tests that she requested will have to be the morning we head to Disneyland as my cycle has been wonky between all of the hormones. We are opting to stay stateside for our anniversary trip this year and going on a road trip of sorts. It will be a few nights in each place filling ourselves up with family, friends, and fun. While we may not be able to see all of you along the way, please know that you are welcome to visit us in AZ! Although I would not recommend this week as it may hit 115 (yikes!)
I FINALLY passed the first of my 3 broker’s tests. There are two school exams and a state exam. Since you all know what an overachiever I am, it was humbling to not pass the Finance exam 3 times and to be soooo very close. 1.7%, really? Could I not have found 4 questions to answer correctly? Well as with all lessons, this has been a good lesson in relearning how to study. I am taking the Law exam again tomorrow and I plan to pass. I would very much love to be done with exams before we depart next Wednesday.
We see the fertility doctor again this week to figure out next steps. I have appreciated the break more than I thought I would as it gave me a chance to finish most of the unpacking in our home as well as have our first people over for dinner, such fun! I have also been able to enjoy a few girl’s nights including getting to see Elizabeth Gilbert speak and sign both of the books that I own.
One thing at a time is how this will go.
