Adventures outside have always helped me figure things out. Whether it was challenging myself on a big climb in Yosemite or simply letting the wind whip thru my hair on a great drive, there is something quite soothing and grounding about the great outdoors.
Change is afoot in my life right now, there is no doubt about that. I have been doubling down on my outdoor adventures as I sought to find joy in the midst of change.
Rereading the emails from 3 years ago helped, posting them helped, but what really helped was revisiting the magic of the drive from Phoenix to Sedona on an epically good stretch of highway that is meant to be driven very well.
Friends in my community invited me to join them on a group hike in Sedona. Since I did not have plans that Sunday and really needed to review some important documents, I said yes. I am learning to say yes more and more.
We drove up to Sedona and went on a glorious hike. Merlin was happy, I was happy, life was good.
The group headed back to Phoenix while Merlin and I headed up to Flag for an overnight at the Courtyard by Marriott in Flagstaff. Sunday nights is one of their slower nights, so I scored a room for about $100 with 2,000 bonus points. Since we know how much I love points, well it was a no brainer.
Self-care is a process and I am just beginning to learn how necessary it is in my life.
