In January as the future was unfolding, I went to Changing Hands, a great independent bookstore in Phoenix, for a vision board session. It was only $5 and I clearly needed to spend some time visualizing what was to come.
I ended up sitting with a group of girls who were friends and we chatted. I felt comfortable enough to share my truth with them when I really wasn’t comfortable sharing it with friends or even family yet.
Flash forward to my craving for aerial yoga and I was at the Elevate Yoga AZ space at the Monorchid a few months ago. This girl looked super familiar and I tried to place where I had met her when we had the aha moment that we had vision boarded together.
Together we have attended many aerial yoga classes over the past few months engaging in our thrill of spinning upside down in our inner Cirque du Soleil spirits. She posted about the Adventure Hunt on FB last month and I decided that sounded like fun.
Yesterday, we went on the Adventure Hunt. We met at 32 Shea, of course. Then we headed to my house while we waited for the rules.
Do you know me from the past? Yup, I am planner, big time, so signing up for something that offers you no clues until 9am on a set day, well ok totally out of my former comfort zone.
My comfort zone went out the window in January, everything I knew to be true all of a sudden was not true. With that knowledge, came stepping out of my comfort zone in all aspects of my life.
I interviewed for a job in January, old me would have fretted about not hearing back, but I just let go. Oh, I start the job on Tuesday.
I wanted the other “thing” on a certain timeline, but I let go of that and trusted it would happen as it was meant to happen.
Back to adventuring…..my friend and I complement each other very well. I am somewhat of a human GPS with a bit of photographic memory as well as having a knack for picking up activities as well as the equipment that goes along with them (thanks Dad!).
We were able to tackle the challenge portion of the list mostly with things from my garage or at my local bouldering gym. Before 12pm, we had rollerbladed, bouldered, slacklined, paddle boarded, cartwheeled, swam, sang our hearts out (not on the list, but so much fun!!), proposed to a stranger (her not me), smelled flowers, and more.
That was only Phase 1!!! We ended up at McDonalds for large sodas and kid’s meal (me), burger (her), yah if you know me well, then you know I eat at McDs never, but man it hit the spot yesterday.
The rest of the hunt was an adventure around Phoenix. Our adrenaline was on high already and then we still had to hike in 5 more places. FFFF. Yah, expletives were dropped so many times after 2pm. We hiked the Mojave 200 after already running around town then hiked 4 more trails in Papago Park, oh and did I mention the temperature varied between 95-100. Holy hot, hot, hot, hot.
We finished just about 6pm and headed to 7-eleven for a slurpee for me and ice cream for her. We skipped the plan to hang out by the pool in favor of chilling separately at our own homes as we literally could not speak.
Cool factor – getting to check out so many sites around Phoenix that I had not visited plus literally letting go of a purpose getting lost yet still finishing the challenge and coming in 51st!
We will definitely go again next year although we will have a bit more of a game plan and much more water.
