Back when I still lived in the Bay Area, one of my favorite pastimes was to indulge in sushi at Sushi Main Street after acupuncture with the lovely Lisa Mandelbaum. (she has since moved to the Sierra foothills and relocated her practice there)
When I eat solo, I generally sit at the bar and chat with the bartender while eating. Sushi bars make this extra easy and fun as you can see what you are about to eat and maybe even try something new.
One night the bartender shared that he was from Nepal, so I asked, “where?”
He looked at me a bit perplexed, before saying, “Chitwan.”
I replied, “oh, yes I loved the Royal Chitwan National Park.” (apparently it has now been renamed to just Chitwan National Park)
Pretty sure he was not expecting me to know where it was let alone that I had traveled there. The overnight at the lodge in the park was hands down one of the highlights of my first trip to Asia. Riding on an elephant to get to the lodge, epically cool.
So, Chitwan – yup, it’s in Nepal.
Photos below of the sushi deliciousness I enjoyed in HMB more than 5 years ago during my birthday week based on date of photo.
