There is a saying that I saw quite frequently that says Happy Wife, Happy Life. Clearly that’s impossible at this point since I no longer have the title wife….
Today I realized that title did not matter when I realized that what matters most is that I am a happy woman.
Yesterday, I enjoyed running on the beach with Merlin for the 3rd consecutive day after several months of not running. Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Phoenix has been really hot since about May and really, really hot since June. Running is not an option for us in Phoenix unless we wake up and get out the door far earlier than either of us prefer.
San Diego on the other hand has weather that allows for an easy 7 or 8 am start time, so we have been taking advantage of this and running on the beach every morning. Merlin would touch the water the first two days, but yesterday he decided to run straight thru the waves. (Check out his Insta: @magicalmerlinpup for a video)
If he ran thru the water, you can guess what that meant for my running shoes….Today, about .25 mi into the run, he was already going further into the water and my shoes were sopping wet.
It took me about a nanosecond before I realized I could take the darn things off and leave them on the beach to run barefoot – hello perfection!
So here’s the thing, Merlin is my current guiding light towards happiness. He was rescued with the full support of my psychological team at the time who thought that a dog may break thru the PTSD to help me lead a full and happy life.
Last year was bumpy as hell. When I would look towards him and what made him happy, I would find myself happier. Now that every day is just Merlin and me, I find this to be even more true.
He looks like is smiling when he is happy and he had a huge smile on his face yesterday and today. I found myself smiling and laughing too.
Ridiculously fun to get wet up to your waist in running shoes while running barefoot with your puppy….We will go again tomorrow.
