Pace Setter

Pace Setter

After my last half marathon, I decided that if I want to break 2 hrs I will need to run with a pace setter. Starting with the 2 hr pace group at my last race made me realize that if I am going to break 2 hrs, then it will be running with a pace person.

I started this post in December of 2013, but never posted it. Initially, I wanted to break this time in early 2014, however we got to well, moving and early 2014 was a clusterf$%k.

From the draft that I started, “I am starting to train to break my PR on February 2nd. I will be running a race, I am just not sure which one just yet.” This is a very telling quote. At that point in 2013 I knew there was a significant possibility that we would relocate to Arizona, however we had not told anyone yet. read more

Getting Healthy

Getting Healthy

Sometimes life gives you more than you can handle. Ok, maybe it happens more than we realize. Over the summer, I made a commitment to get healthy by January. Then (gratefully) my business took off and the getting healthy piece moved to secondary. Still hiking and what have you, but it was not my number 1 priority.

The thing I am learning is that when you set a goal, you really need to make that your focus and trust that everything else will fall into place. It’s really not possible to have 5 #1 goals. It is possible to have 5 goals just not all of them at #1. read more

Adventure Run + Yoga = Hello Burbank

Adventure Run + Yoga = Hello Burbank

If you talked to me the night we arrived, you probably wouldn’t have gotten a great impression of Burbank. A lousy night of sleep on Thursday night combined with an early start Friday plus traffic en route to the hotel had left me well, tuckered out. I rallied a bit and we headed to San Fernando Blvd to find a spot for dinner.

The places that would usually sound good to me like locally sourced food or Vietnamese, either sounded expensive or had a line, which made them pass. Then we walked up a side street and found a pizza place, North End Pizza. It was perfect. Pizza and a beer and we headed to bed. Just what the doctor ordered. read more

Running with Friends

This is my second post as part of the Travel Tuesday linkup with Compass Rose. Apparently I have been a bit busy as this is also my second post in a week. The topic for this post has been on my mind a lot lately as I ramped up my training for the half-marathon in November.

Training gives me a plan for exercise, but a plan is only good for me with a goal that is exciting. I have trained for probably 6 half-marathons at this point, maybe more. I have lost count. Several years ago, I trained for 3 in less than a year. That was probably too many for me and I pretty much quit running cold turkey. read more

Running is Good for the Soul

Running is Good for the Soul

Last day of Blogtember: Share a photo of something old. Maybe something that has personal history for you, that was passed down to you, and that has special meaning to you. Tell us about it and why it’s special.

First, a special thanks to Jenni at Story of My Life for hosting Blogtember and coming up with all of the interesting topics.

So I was going to write about my wedding ring as it is very special to me. It is an antique setting that was given to me by my husband and passed down thru his family. It was his grandmother’s ring that was passed to his uncle who did not use it, so he gave it to my husband when he was thinking of proposing. This ring is indeed very special to me and probably is the rightful subject of this pose, but I will save writing about it for another day, perhaps the story of its 10,000 mile tune-up. read more
