Rome, bella roma. We decided not to take any shore excursions for this cruise. If you are familiar with cruising, shore excursions are the tours lead by the cruise ship. When we looked thru the options, they seemed overpriced based on our research of how much it would take to get into each city. Granted, the excursions guarantee that the ship will not leave without you.
Our first foray into this non-shore excursion idea was Rome. Although we did not take an excursion in Valencia, we could see the ship from the city. In Rome, this was not the case. It was an hour and a half train ride into Rome. We literally ran from the shuttle stop to the train station to try to catch the earliest train, of course a italiano, the train was late. Running was clearly not required. We took the train to the furthest stop – Stazione Termini.
